Crib Sheets-How To

Since we're only in Seattle for the summer, we didn't want to take apart the crib, so little Adeline is just in the pack 'n play.  Unfortunately, I had no sheets for the pack 'n play and was making do with a crib sheet and constantly having to retuck the loose edges (it was WAY too big) under the pack 'n play pad.

Last week, I finally got fed up with it and headed to Goodwill.  I found this twin sized sheet for just a few dollars!

Kind of going off of this tutorial HERE at MADE, (Seriously one of my FAVORITE sites...check out EVERYTHING.  You will LOVE it.) I cut a rectangle a little bigger than the pack 'n play pad.

I cut 2 1/2 inch squares from the corners (because I'd measured 3 inches extra on each side for my initial rectangle). You'd want to make this bigger if your mattress is thicker.

Fold those two corner edges together and sew twice to reinforce the seam.  Do this for all four corners.

Serge or zig-zag the edge of your fabric. Cut a piece of skinny elastic about 6 inches long.  I stretched mine out to see how much of the corner it would cover, started at one end, and zigzagged a long stitch down the length of the elastic while stretching it. Sew it about 3/8 inch from the raw edge of the fabric.

Fold over the edge 1/2-3/4 inch and sew all the way around the sheet.  Some people iron this fold and measure the whole edge.  I don't have the patience to do this.  I just line the raw edge up with the edge of my machine foot and the folded edge up with a particular line and sew slowly enough that I can measure my hem with those lines while I'm sewing.

Make sure to stretch the elastic out while you're hemming the corner!

You're done! Make an extra for when you've got to wash the other, fold, and tuck it in your linen closet!

In case you've always hated folding fitted sheets because they are all bunchy and end up wrinkled, (so why fold them anyway?!) check out THIS how-to from Martha Stewart on how to fold a fitted sheet!

Oh, and before you leave, don't forget the enter the GIVEAWAY!
