So, yesterday I had quite the scare when my sister was sewing at my machine and said, "Um...Is it supposed to have these big loops and stuff everywhere? I mean, I don't really mind, but..."
The fact was, I'M the one who really minds!
So, I fiddled with it and fussed with it and turned the tension knob to everything possible and it didn't seem to make ANY difference.
I googled repair shops and checked pricing, but the truth is, my dear machine is not worth what it would cost to get it fixed...except to me.
So I hauled my beautiful machine off my desk:
Dug my sister's machine out of the basement:
And kept on going.
Yes, I was still sewing. NO, I was NOT happy about it.
Hours later, I was on the phone with another sister (who owns the sewing machine found in the basement) and she suggested that it was probably something DUMB that was wrong with it and I would feel like an idiot once I figured it out.
So, I did something I've never done. Read my sewing machine manual. In fact, I'd not only never done it, but I'd thrown away the owner's manual and had to find it online.
And I learned some things!
First, I learned how to use the needle threader for the first time ever! So proud of myself...
Second, and more importantly, I learned that the bobbin has it's own tension adjustment...
One eighth of a turn of a screw and one and a half minutes later, my machine was as good as new...well, close enough...
Back to the baby love, though.
I started with these:
Cut strips of the striped fabric:
Marked the onesie:
Gathered the strips and pinned them on:
Handstitched them in place and VOILA!
Now for the back...because every little girl needs ruffles on her bum...
Double the length of each strip:
Gather it, sew it on and RUFFLE BUM!
I love ruffles....
Wait! What about the jean in the first picture?! What was that for?
You'll have to wait and find out...
